Home Office minister visits local cop shop

Home Office minister Vernon Coaker MP and Clive Efford paid a visit to the Cop Shop located in the Co-Op in Westhorne Avenue.

Clive and the minister met with staff and local police officers at the store, where London’s first store-based ‘cop shop’ was opened to reduce crime in the community.

Also at the shop was Usdaw General Secretary John Hannett. They were all there to sign up to the Union’s Freedom From Fear campaign which aims to protect shop workers from violence and abuse.

Mr Coaker explained, “The police station at Eltham is a unique project and a very direct response to help address the real concerns of shop staff and the community they serve.”

Clive and the minister chatted to one of the local police sergeants who explained how the new police Safer Neighbourhood Teams are beginning to make a real change in local communities by clamping down on violent or anti-social behaviour.

Every ward in London now has its own SNT, made up of at least one sergeant, two PCs and three PCSOs. For details of your local police team, click here.
