Clive Efford MP is extremely shocked and saddened by the death of his friend Councillor Kanta Patel. Clive has known Kanta for over 25 years and has worked closely with her when he was a Greenwich Councillor and as Eltham MP.
Clive says, “Kanta did so much to bring communities together in our borough. Even through her recent illness she did not stop working and would get on the phone to offer her help.”
“The Borough has lost one of its greatest champions for social justice and equality. Her achievements over her many years on Greenwich Council will stand as tribute to the vital role she played. In particular, her work in setting up the Care Partnership with Charlton Athletic has been extremely effective in tackling racism and social exclusion for the last 15 years.”
“She worked hard to improve the lives of everyone. There are people today that are benefiting from things that she achieved who will never be aware of the influence Kanta has had on their lives, such was the extent of her achievements. We have not just lost a colleague and associate, we have all lost a very dear friend. It is hard to believe that Kanta is not going to be around any more to give me advice and encouragement. I will miss her and my thoughts at this time are with her family.”
