Clive Efford met with the organisers of the Olympic Torch route at the House of Commons and was given a briefing on where the torch will be travelling en route to London for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The torch will be carried by 8,000 inspirational Torchbearers, each of whom will have a story personal achievement and/or contribution to their local communities.
The torch relay will last for 70 days, starting at Land’s End, Cornwall from there it will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK giving thousands of communities and individuals the chance to see the Torch. Every county in England and every Local Authority area in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales is included in the route.
Commenting on the route Clive said:
“I am delighted that 95% of the people will be within 10 miles of the Olympic torch route, this will be a fantastic opportunity for communities to come together to celebrate the countdown to the Olympic Games.
I was particularly pleased to find out that the Torch will pass through my constituency. I am urging everyone in Eltham to start thinking about the ways that we can welcome the Olympic Flame.”
