Back the Bill

UPDATE: Unfortunately, the Government prevented my bill moving forward. However, I will continue to fight to save our NHS. If you would like to register your support for a properly funded NHS and to keep updated on the campaign, please enter your details below.

I am delighted that my Bill to halt the privatisation of our health service passed its second reading in Parliament by 241 to 18. It is astonishing that the Tories could only muster a handful of MPs to support their disastrous 2012 Act which forces competition in the NHS.

The Labour Party created the NHS and my Bill will protect it from competition from private companies, to exempt it from any Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement and to ensure that we prioritise patients not profit.

But our fight isn't over.  I have written to William Hague to demand that the Government take the Bill straight to Committee and do not use delay tactics to try to stall its passage through Parliament.

We have seen the impact that the Government’s privatisation agenda has had on our NHS – longer waiting times, fewer frontline staff and millions being spent on accountants and lawyers rather than patients - and the Liberal Democrats have gone along with it.

It is simple; we will not stand for this and my Bill just signals the start. A Labour Government would repeal the toxic Health and Social Care Act and ensure that we put patients back where they belong – at the heart of our NHS.

We still need your help to keep the pressure on the Government.  Please register your support for Clive's demands that the Government respect the will of Parliament and not delay its passage through Parliament.

Don’t let the government do the same to the NHS as they did to the Post Office

Privatisation of the NHS is a national disgrace. A profiteering approach will only add to the build up of a negative, distrusting society. It will be a further nail in the altruism coffin.

We must support Clive Efford’s NHS Bill to save the NHS from privatisation! We know that it costs a lot of money and needs support and I feel that we should be able to ask governments from other countries to cover the cost of treatment required by their citizens who visit Great Britain. We would have to pay for treatment in their countries.
