Clive hears about excellent work carried out by British Legion

Clive Efford was “delighted” to meet with The Royal British Legion to learn about its welfare support for the whole Armed Forces family when he attended an event at the House of Commons organised by The Royal British Legion to highlight their important work.

At the event, Clive was learnt about the Legion’s vital work to improve the welfare of the Armed Forces family in the local area.

Geoff Simpbritish legionson, the Legion’s County Manager for Kent, said, “It was great to see Clive; we really appreciated him making the time to drop in. Many people don’t realise that we spend nearly £1.4 million a week on helping both the serving and the ex-Service communities, including their families, so we were delighted to tell Clive about the range of services we provide. We help everyone from a child of a serving family needing an adventure break to a young entrepreneur needing advice and assistance to be his own boss.”

Clive said, “It is always a real honour to work with the Legion, which does such important, and yet often unseen, welfare work for some of my most vulnerable constituents in both the serving and ex-Service communities. It is vital that we, as a nation, are there for those serving in current conflicts, and for the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. I was grateful for the opportunity to learn more about how the Legion stands shoulder to shoulder with all who Serve. They deserve as much support as we can give them”.

Yes to Silvertown Link with DLR

Clive is urging local residents to take part in the Mayor for London’s consultation on river crossings by supporting a new crossing at Silvertown and insisting the new crossing includes the DLR.

Let’s bring an end to daily Blackwall congestion

Clive has written to many of his constituents asking them to take part in TfL’s latest consultation on a third river crossing at Blackwall. The deadline for submissions is the 1st February 2013.

“I have been campaigning for over 10 years for a third crossing at Silvertown to relieve traffic congestion on the approaches to the Blackwall Tunnel,” Clive explained,  “this would include an extra road crossing but must also bring the DLR to North Greenwich. In the longer term we could then look at options to bring the DLR along the motorway to central Eltham.” Continue reading

Help save our local NHS

IMG_0120Nearly three hundred people turned up listen to the borough’s three MPs give their reactions to proposals from the Government-appointed Trust Special Administrator’s proposals for our local health services.

The government has placed the Administrator directly in control of our local hospitals and he is charged with reconfiguring local services to deal with the budget deficit in our healthcare trust. Clive told the meeting that he was opposed to the whole way that this process has been imposed on our local Trust, the South London NHS Healthcare Trust (SLHT) which was responsible for managing our local hospitals, Princess Royal in Bromley, Queen Elizabeth in Woolwich and Queen Marys in Sidcup .  This trust had only been established in 2009 and it was already implementing its own long-term plans to deal with the deficit.
