Clive calls for DLR link to North Greenwich as he objects to TfL’s plans for Silvertown Crossing

IMG_1135_0004.jpgClive has objected to TfL’s latest proposals for a road-only Silvertown crossing.  In his response to TfL’s consultation he has demanded that any crossing must include a DLR link to North Greenwich.

Clive restated his view that we cannot allow the present situation to continue, where congestion and the associated air pollution are now almost routine.  However, it is vital any new scheme offers people a real alternative to travelling by car.   “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to radically improve local transport, tackling congestion and air pollution” explains Clive.  “If we continue to make the mistakes of the past choosing only to build roads then we will have squandered this opportunity and we will see congestion–with all its consequences for pollution, employment and prosperity–continue to grow.”

Clive has also pointed out to TfL that is unacceptable for them to impose tolls on local users of any new crossing whilst other bridges in London remain free to use.  Clive has stressed that all residents of boroughs either side of the crossing must be exempt from any tolls.
