Clive's introduces bill to give football fans a voice

parliament_football_deabte_march_2016.jpgClive Efford introduced a new Bill today to ensure that the voices of football fans are heard when decisions affecting their club are made.

The Football Governance (Supporters' Participation) would require football clubs to offer for sale to their supporters a specified percentage of shares in the club upon a change of ownership.  It would also require that a minimum number of places on the club’s board be set aside for election by a qualifying supporters’ organisation.

The Bill had its second reading in Parliament today (4th March). To find out more about the bill click here.

The proposals were drawn up following consultation with nearly 100 supporters groups as well as the Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct.

Despite widespread support for the bill the Government prevented the bill moving onto it's next stage.
