Greenwich Concert Band The Greenwich Concert Band was formed in 1988 with musicians who originally formed the Greenwich Youth Band, but wanted to extend their repertoire with more advanced music. The GCB now attracts musicians of a high calibre from all over SE London, and maintains close links with the Youth Band, providing support for concerts, music and a natural progression when the members mature both in age and musical ability. The two bands also share the valuable time of the same conductor, Chris Lloyd.
Greenwich Youth Band GYB was established in 1982, in response to a need among local young musicians for an advanced band outside the school environment. The band consists of approximately 60 young musicians (resident in and around the borough of Greenwich), whose standard of playing is unsurpassed locally, and it provides the much needed experience of rehearsing, learning and performing a wide range of styles of music to an exceptionally high standard. The band rehearses weekly and performs all over the borough throughout the year, under the leadership of Chris Lloyd.
