Clive Efford - A Strong Voice for Eltham and Plumstead

sadiq_and_clive.jpgChris Grayling, the Conservative minister for transport, has called for the train services from Eltham to Charing Cross and Victoria to be cut.  Under his Department's proposals trains on the Bexleyheath line will only run to Cannon Street.

They claim that  running to trains to several destinations "introduces operational complexity, requiring trains to cross complex and busy junctions. This is a major contributor to delays, and makes it much harder to recover the service when things go wrong.”  The Government's answer to this problem is simple: cut the services, ignoring the terrible impact this will have on local commuters and the whole community.  This unacceptable.

This will be terrible for our area where there are no tubes to fall back on and it will be detrimental to London, where it essential to spread the commuter load or London will grind to a standstill. We’ve already suffered the London Bridge closures . We need Cannon Street, Blackfriars, Victoria and Charing Cross! No question…

We are not well served in South East London for transportation into London, and the proposed changes would be damaging for us.

I am resident in Bexleyheath. Cannon Street as a sole hub is not workable for us

This is an appalling proposal. The south east is the most poorly served area in terms of public transport. No underground. No bridges. No DLR. No east-west cross routes at all. It also has the worst cycling provisions. On top of this, we have endured years of disruption while the London2Brighton abridge works have been ongoing. We were also promoised that these poorly performing rail lines could be handed to TFL to run but we now know, for purely political reasons, this will not happen. Limiting train services from SE London and restricting final destination stations, must not happen!

Outrageous…with all the new build in the area. The pressure on already conjested roads, would be terrible. The environment and health of the people would suffer enormously. This rail proposal has to be stopped. All political parties should be against this. Please all sign and make your objection known.

My partner and I are registered blind so cutting these rail services would make our journeys to work and to meet friends particularly difficult. At the moment we can travel independently from Eltham station but would need assistance from staff if we were required to change trains on route.

This will effect both my business and that of my tenants in the area. As a property developer it will also mean restricted investment into the area of transport links are to be reduced to the centre of London

I can’t believe this service will be reduced. The number of passengers that use this train line, these commuters already suffer due to strike actions, when trying to get to work. Does the Mayor Of London travel each day by train ??.

This will leave residents in the SE of London cut off from transport direct to the centre of London. We are being forgotten again by a Government that does not care.
