Clive Efford - A Strong Voice for Eltham and Plumstead

sadiq_and_clive.jpgChris Grayling, the Conservative minister for transport, has called for the train services from Eltham to Charing Cross and Victoria to be cut.  Under his Department's proposals trains on the Bexleyheath line will only run to Cannon Street.

They claim that  running to trains to several destinations "introduces operational complexity, requiring trains to cross complex and busy junctions. This is a major contributor to delays, and makes it much harder to recover the service when things go wrong.”  The Government's answer to this problem is simple: cut the services, ignoring the terrible impact this will have on local commuters and the whole community.  This unacceptable.

Eltham rail connections with London are simply too important to cut… if anything we should add more… reduce traffic on the roads.

It is essential for trains to go to Charing Cross ! Why are we going backwards in everything these days!

This plan is just ludcrous. Connections to Waterloo east and Charing Cross are an essential part of commuting and for social life and occasions. The horrific service offered these past three years has been unacceptable. This needs to be stopped . We don’t have another option in terms of tube or dlr! Another short minded decision. Also the line to Victoria is absolutely essential for a huge number like my partner who chose to move to eltham knowing that line was available ! This should not and cannot be stopped. It will impact upon families hugely who already suffer with spending less time together and penalties from nurseries due to delays on the trains.

Commuters have suffered all the inconvenience of the upgrade to London Bridge and now are being punished for their patience.

This is just plain stupid! They should be putting more trains on not taking them off!

This is disgraceful proposal to cut the service on the only local train line we have for getting to London particularly the west end and theatre land

The govt and SE trains should be improving services by introducing the 12 carriage trains to alleviate the overcrowding in the peak hours ,

If there is no direct service to Charing cross and Victoria commuters will be encouraged to travel by road particularly for visits to Kings college hospital at Denmark hill and evening visits to the west end.

The Government should have handed the service over to the Mayor and Tfl (as they had indicted to the previous Tory Mayor,) The service would be improving and not reducing as the the consultation proposal

In the event that train services to Victoria and Charing Cross are cut, it will make commuting on that line impossible. Please fight this crazy idea. Thank you.

The bexleyheath line has had services running to 3 stations for as long as I can remember. Surely in this day and age with advances in technology we should be able to improve services not make changes that bring no benefit to the people using them. I’m very unhappy as a commuter on the bexleyheath line that this is happening. Also, currently if there are problems at one of the stations there is the option of getting the train from an alternative station that is unaffected (this happens fairly regularly)! What alternative with people on the bexleyheath line have if there are problems at Cannon Street or London Bridge. As you say we have no underground service, this will mean a lot of people will have massive struggles to get into and out of work.

I never get trains to canon street from Eltham, I always go to Charing Cross or Waterloo, without that service my journey into London would take much longer, by having to get a bus to another station which isn’t all that local.
