Clive Efford - A Strong Voice for Eltham and Plumstead

railcuts

sadiq_and_clive.jpgChris Grayling, the Conservative minister for transport, has called for the train services from Eltham to Charing Cross and Victoria to be cut.  Under his Department's proposals trains on the Bexleyheath line will only run to Cannon Street.

They claim that  running to trains to several destinations "introduces operational complexity, requiring trains to cross complex and busy junctions. This is a major contributor to delays, and makes it much harder to recover the service when things go wrong.”  The Government's answer to this problem is simple: cut the services, ignoring the terrible impact this will have on local commuters and the whole community.  This unacceptable.

One of the great things about Eltham is that it is possible to get a train to different places.

This proposal is outrageous

A fortune has been spent improving London Bridge station – what sense does it make to now inflict an even worse service on Bexleyheath Line users, of which there are many. Trains are usually crowded and seats are hard to find. The line is popular precisely because it serves 3 major London destinations. Of the three, Cannon Street is probably the least used.

Cut services after all the money we have given. Renationalise them and we will decide what the MPs can do with regards to rail services.

Trains going to Cannon Street only on the BEXLEYHEATH line will add 10-20 minute extra to my one way commute (100 – 200 minutes a week) NOT ACCEPTABLE

The trains are busy enough as they are in the mornings, if anything there needs to be an increase in services rather than a cutting back of them, especially with, say, the upcoming renewal of places like Eltham’s high street.

The transport minister should be ashamed of himself, what an ill conceived utterly stupid and backward idea. The guy should come down and join rush hour queues for a couple of weeks. Imagine the nightmare at Lewisham station when thousands of people on the Bexleyheath line will attempt to change to already overcrowded trains if their arteries to Charing Cross and Victoria were severed. Typical paper pushing theorist, no blinking idea what implications his little “idea” would do to already stressed people in real life. Sack him!!

I moved into Eltham 7 weeks ago. Part of the reason I moved is because of the choice of routes from the train station. Reducing these choices limit people’s access to the city

There are four adults living at our address all of whom use the trains to London. Two of us use them daily to commute. This will be a total disruption to our day. If a train is cancelled at the moment you can get on an alternative one and change at Lewisham or London Bridge. If we only have one train to London we will have to wait longer for the next train to arrive. This will cause over crowding issues, worse than they are now. It will affect travellers with disability, making their journey more challenging. Leave our trains as they are please.

Scandalous actions from Chris Grayling considering we in the South-East are already without the underground. Desperate decisions being made by the government, imposed on them by the logic of austerity, who are again cutting of a nose to spite a face.

Eltham links to London have always been good that was the reason we moved here and now they want to cut the service !!? Instead of improving our services they are making things much worse, what next

How can this be a good or progressive move for transport in the South of London? It is already woefully below the standards of North London transport links and now this? Why have we struggled with years of the London Bridge nonsense to now be told this?

I commute from Eltham to Charing Cross and/or Victoria every weekday and would be absolutely lost without this transport service. I used to commute from North Greenwich tube station but getting there via bus from Shooters Hill takes 35-40 minutes now, sometimes longer, due to traffic, traffic lights, indirect bus route. It already takes me 1.5 hours door to door from Shooters Hill to Central London – do NOT take our Southeastern rail service to CHX and VIC away from Eltham. We need this desperately.

Absolutely ridiculous suggestion. Chris Grayling needs to step down as he is not fit for the job.
