Standing room only as local residents demand reopening of the Source

IMG_1652_-_Copy_(2).JPGThe Horn Park community braved the rain and wind to come together to demand that the Source medical centre be reopened at a public meeting organised by Clive Efford.

Over 70 residents crammed into the Horn Park Community Centre to tell the local health commissioners how the Estate had been devastated by the closure of the nurse-led medial centre in Sibthorpe Road.   The residents explained how difficult it was for the elderly, the disabled and young families to access health services since the Source’s closure in 2016.

Members of the Greenwich CCG – the body that took the decision to close the Source due to Government cuts – were at the meeting and heard first-hand about how residents routinely had to wait up to four weeks just to get an appointment with their GP.  There is no GP on the Estate, so people must make long journeys just to get to a doctor.

Speaking after the meeting Clive said: “I was delighted that so many people turned up despite the bad weather.  They put their case with great passion directly to the CCG about how badly treated this community has been when it comes to accessible health services.  The Source was a wonderful facility that allowed people to drop in, receive treatment, advice and reassurance.  The CCG made all sorts of promises about home care and GP waiting times when they closed the Source.  It is clear from what the residents said that these promises have not been met.  I will keep campaigning to ensure that the views of this community are heard.”

Phew, well done Mr Efford, absolutely brilliant.

Did you know over 8000 GP surgeries are to be reduced 1,500 in England, that’s right ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED !!

May I point out this really important issue concerning EDM 2103 Prayer Motion March 18th for OUR Nhs. Your colleague Teresa Pearce MP is signing tomorrow (18th). The primary sponsor is by Jeremy Corbyn . Matthew Pennycook MP has kindly done so along with over 50 other MP’s. I am asking on behalf of your constituents in Eltham as it affects us all countrywide. RED, BLUE, YELLOW OR GREEN we all use it, probably born in it.

I found out at midnight last night (Friday) that the Prayer Motion EDM #2103 has parliamentary time on Monday 18th March, 2.30pm. Please go along.

Also please note ’ GOING IN FOR THE KILL UNDER THE COVER OF BREXIT CHAOS’ You are invited to join NHS expert, Dr Bob Gill, and special guest, Brian Eno, this Tuesday 19th March at 6pm in Parliament for an urgent discussion of the unfolding Tory attacks on the NHS under the cover of Brexit turmoil. An excerpt from Dr Gill’s new documentary THE GREAT NHS HEIST will be shown. Dr Gill will brief Labour MPs and other guests on three hugely damaging manoeuvres that will take the NHS further towards a for profit, US-style private health insurance system. The first of the Government’s manoeuvres involves Integrated Care Providers (ICPs). On February 13th 2019 Statutory Instrument 248 created new legal entities or ICPs which will open up English NHS services to American-style Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs). On 25th February, Jeremy Corbyn tabled EDM #2103 in the form of a prayer motion against S.I., 2019, No. 248. So far 53 colleagues have added their signature, but more are needed. We very much hope to see you there! Alex Sobel MP DATE: TUESDAY 19TH MARCH 2019 VENUE: JUBILEE ROOM, PARLIAMENT SPEAKER: DR BOB GILL TIME: 18:00
