Clive recently organised a meeting in Parliament to give SE London MPs the opportunity to question Network Rail over the impact that plans to rebuild London Bridge Station will have on local commuters.  Southeastern trains were also invited but unfortunately failed to attend.

“London Bridge will be completely rebuilt over the next three years which will bring long-needed improvements in capacity and reliability on our local train services, explains Clive.

“From the beginning of 2015 no Charing Cross trains on the Bexleyheath or Sidcup lines will call at London Bridge or 20 months.  Cannon Street trains will continue to stop at London Bridge.  From August 2016 Charing Cross trains will stop at London Bridge whilst Cannon Street trains will not.  The work is due to be completed by January 2018.”

“This is clearly going to have a major effect on passengers travelling in to central London.  This is why I demanded to have this meeting to give Labour MPs in SE London the chance to question Network Rail about the impact this will have on our constituents.  We have received reassurances that Network Rail have planned this for a long time and that they are taking every measure to keep disruption to passengers as minimal as possible.  We will now be able to closely monitor this situation and hold Network Rail to account is they do not fulfill their pledges.”

“The good news is that by 2018, the number of lines into London Bridge will increase to nine, allowing greater capacity through the station.  I am disappointed that Southeastern failed to turn up to the meeting but I will be meeting with them very soon to ensure that  we get a firm commitment to increase trains on the Bexleyheath and Sidcup lines to increase rush-hour trains to 12 carriages to ensure local people benefit from this work.”
