Clive has told local residents that he can see no circumstances in which he would ever agree to fracking in Eltham or Plumstead.

Clive’s position puts him in direct conflict with London mayor Boris Johnson who said in the Times newspaper:  “If reserves of shale can be exploited in London we should leave no stone unturned, or unfracked.”

Clive has said “These comments from the Mayor are highly irresponsible and can only cause alarm as he is suggesting that any request for fracking in London should be granted whatever local residents think.  This cannot be acceptable.”

Clive is supporting a number of opposition amendments to the Government’s Infrastructure Bill that is currently progressing through Parliament. These would close a number of loopholes in existing regulations on fracking and include important safeguards concerning planning regulations for local areas.
