A public meeting will take place to discuss the future of the Winter Gardens in Avery Hill on 19 March 7:30pm in Christchurch Hall in Eltham High Street.

The meeting has been arranged after Clive met with the University and called for them to host a public meeting so that local people can find out more about the condition of the Winter Garden and the land that they intend to sell to developers.  Clive has stressed that “the University cannot just wash its hands of its responsibilities to the Winter Garden and leave behind a massive headache for the local community.”

“If we do end up with housing on parts of the site then it has to be truly affordable to local people.  I want the council to make it clear that they will not look favourably on any development which is unaffordable for local people.  We must not allow any development which allows foreign buyers looking for an investment to purchase homes on the site that they have no intention of living in themselves, at prices that local people cannot compete with.  That approach to house building is pricing young people out of the housing market whether they are looking to rent or buy.”
