The Queen has sent her personal congratulations to an Eltham Couple to celebrate their Diamond wedding anniversary.

Dennis and Joyce Moffatt were married on 6 February 1954 at Woolwich Town Hall, less than a year after the Queen’s coronation.

They first met when they were both 16 and have been happily married for 61 years.  Their daughter contacted the Queen after the couple’s 60th anniversary to let her know about the historic milestone and the official congratulations were sent just after their 61st anniversary.

Eltham MP Clive Efford was on hand to celebrate with the couple.  Clive said “It really is a great honour to celebrate this wonderful occasion with Joyce and Dennis.  I have known the couple for many and have often visited Joyce at the Horn Park pensioners’ forum she helped run and which was known across the community for its excellent bacon sandwiches!”

Joyce and Dennis have lived in Gavestone Road for many years.  Dennis used to help deliver milk to the prefab houses that were on the site before the modern Estate was built.
