Clive spoke to a packed meeting at St. Mary’s Community Centre along with representatives from the council and East architecture to discuss the proposals for the regeneration of Eltham High Street.

The proposals seek to support the local economy, enhance civic pride, encourage walking and cycling, promote road safety and improve the use of shops and services. Some of the major changes suggested by the scheme would see trees lining the pavement, improved pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes through the high street.

The proposals were broadly welcomed by those in attendance, however, the meeting provided an opportunity for both Clive and those in attendance to raise concerns.

Commenting after the meeting, Clive said:

“I am delighted that so many attended this evening’s meeting, the importance of Eltham Town Centre was clearly shown by the way so many local people engaged in this discussion discussion.”

“Overall, the plans provide an excellent base to reinvigorate the town centre and ensure it maintains it’s vibrancy for generations to come. However, I have a number of reservations, particularly around parking, which I hope those leading on the scheme will take on board and address in the next stage of the scheme.”
