ECHP034.jpgClive has officially opened the new Community Hospital in Eltham town centre after a decade of hard work from Eltham residents, the local NHS, Greenwich Council and Clive Efford.

Eltham Community Hospital is a purpose-built NHS community hospital bringing together GPs, nurses and social care under one roof.  The hospital enables the delivery of high quality, integrated clinical and community services that meet the needs of people across the borough of Greenwich.

“I was really delighted to be present at the official opening of this wonderful new hospital.” said Clive as he unveiled the presentation plaque.    “It was commissioned and designed under the last Labour government and so I have spent the last 10 years lobbying local health chiefs and government ministers to ensure that the it was built.  I know that it is already delivering real benefits to the local community.”

The hospital was completed earlier this year when it had its “soft” opening. There has been a phased introduction of services since then.  The hospital features two GP practices, Eltham Medical Practice and Eltham Palace Surgery together with a wide range of primary and community care services, 40 intermediate care beds, out-patient consulting rooms and state-of-the-art ultrasound facilities.
