Hard working commuters going back to work after the Christmas break are now paying 33 per cent more for their train fares under the Tories, because of yet another year of rail fare hikes that came into force this week.  Figures released by Labour show that the cost of an annual season ticket from Eltham to central London has risen by a whopping £328 a year, or 33 percent, since 2010.

Clive joined Denise in slamming the Tory government for hammering passengers and commuters. Clive said: “Passengers in Eltham and Plumstead have been hit again and again by eye-watering rail fare rises. Fares have now rocketed by 33 percent under the Tories, far outstripping any increase in most people’s pay packets.

Denise added: “Travelling to work by train isn’t a luxury, it’s how people get to work every day. A season ticket from Eltham to London now costs over £328 more every year than it did in 2010.”

Clive backs Labour’s policy to bring the railways into public ownership so they can be run for passengers not profit. “This would mean means fairer fares, investment in a 21st century railway and giving passengers a stronger voice” he added.
