Clive has written to Transport for London to demand that the consultation on rerouting the 178 bus goes ahead now to avoid delays caused by the London elections in May.  He has warned TfL that if they do not act now then they will be severely delayed by the period of purdah* in the run up to the Mayoral and GLA election son 5 May.

Clive has been at the forefront with local residents in the campaign to get the bus to properly serve local residents.  The route service was rerouted away from residents when the old Ferrier Estate was redeveloped.

Speaking of the need for urgent action, Clive explained:  “This problem has been allowed to continue for far too long.  I have heard first-hand about people finding it difficult to get to hospital, children struggling to get to schools and others facing difficulties getting to work.   It is simply not acceptable to let these problems continue.  TfL must sort this out as a matter of urgency.

Clive chaired a meeting in October last year organised by local residents to give them the chance to quiz local GLA member Len Duval, Berkeley Homes, TfL and Greenwich Council about plans to reinstate the route.  At that meeting Berekely Homes revealed that there was nothing now stopping TfL from re-routing the 178 to follow the B16 route through the new Kidbrooke Village.

*  “Purdah” is the period of time immediately before elections when specific restrictions on the activity of civil servants are in place
