We all owe a debt of gratitude to the frontline staff in our public services and industries who are helping us get through this crisis. Whether they are working in the NHS, providing vital council emergency services, delivering our post, working in shops and supermarkets or volunteering in the community it has been inspiring to see the people of Eltham come together to support each other in this crisis.

One thing that has emerged from this crisis is the community spirit of local people who have organised together with the council to help their friends and neighbours. For those who want to volunteer the council has set The Greenwich Hub where people can register to volunteer. If you want to volunteer please see the following link: https://www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/…/…/coronavirus_covid-19/4

I have been discussing the response to this crisis on a daily basis with the Danny Thorpe, the Leader of the council, Len Duvall AM and fellow Greenwich MPs Matthew Pennycook and Abena Oppong-Assare.

I want to pay tribute to Danny and the council workers, Charlton Athletic Community Trust and Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency for the work they have done to respond to people’s needs in this crisis. Greenwich’s volunteering hub and food network is seen as the best in the country and we should be very proud of what they have done together with the volunteers who have helped make it work on the ground.

As always, my office remains open to assist people – please do not hesitate to email me on clive@cliveefford.org.uk or call me on 02088505744.
